The Sensory Integration and Occupational Therapy Clinic for the treatment of autism, hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder, Down’s syndrome, learning difficulties, psychological conditions such as anxiety, fear and cerebral palsy, developmental delays, as well as typical children and those with sensory issues. Firstly, we assess sensory disorders – such as visual, auditory, gustatory, smell – in terms of over- or under-responsiveness – as well as various motor skills, eye-hand coordination and pre-writing skills. We then draw up a treatment plan designed to achieve sensory integration and increase the child’s independence. We train the child to organise, integrate and interpret sensory input and respond to it appropriately, thereby enabling them to overcome difficulties in communication, participation and learning. How? We place the child in an environment suited to their current abilities and enhance this with various sensory stimuli to improve their adaptability. We communicate with them using a language that enables us to understand them, so that they can express their needs or refusal to participate in a particular activity.
